The F Factor

Failure is an inherent part of life, especially when you lead a creative life. Creativity does not follow a recipe — there is no instruction book, so the results are never guaranteed. Bulletproof solutions and proven ideas are not creative by definition. While adapting proven strategies is perfectly valid, pursuing original solutions or unprecedented innovations inherently involves risk. Failure, in these cases, is anything but rare.

Realizing that failure is part of the game is essential. Embracing it and seeing the opportunities it offers is a game-changer. Failures are crucial for our growth; they can also be the seeds of potential breakthroughs.

The F Factor experience invites you to recall and experience a failure through a new lens in hindsight. Doing so is often easier than seeing a failure as an opportunity in real time, but we rarely take the time to do so.

The more you re-evaluate experiences you perceive as failures and see them from the perspective that time provides, the easier it becomes to embrace setbacks in the present and remain open to creative ideas.

To experience a past failure differently, ask yourself:

  • How did I feel when I failed?
  • How did others react to the outcome?
  • What have I done to recover from the failure?
  • What have I learned from the surprising result?
  • What possibilities are there in the alleged setback?
