Our lives involve numerous decisions every day, with choices presenting themselves every minute we are awake. Most of them are not grand, of course. We decide what to eat for breakfast, which route to take to work, and whether to spend an extra five minutes in bed. Most of these decisions are not life-changing, but they could still have led us down a different path.
The No Regrets experience is not about being judgmental or longing for different outcomes. It is an exercise in reshaping reality, which is a fancy way to say imagining.
To begin, choose a decision you’ve made today or in the past week. It doesn’t matter how small or trivial. Now, imagine what would happen if you took an alternative path. Don’t limit yourself to the probable — imagine the possible (or even the unlikely).
Once you have a vivid image of this alternate reality, capture it as a short story.
This is more than an exercise in creative writing; it is an exercise in active imagination. Whether it exists or not, we have a multiverse in our minds, which is always the source of new ideas.
