This is not life advice. It is, however, an opportunity to use your imagination.
I love book covers. Many of them are carefully designed to interact with the book’s content. Of course, they are meant to capture your attention so you’d grab the book and at least read the back cover. But if you can resist the temptation of doing so, the cover of a book can spark your imagination.
Go to a library or a bookstore and pick a random book you know nothing about. Don’t open it or read the back cover. Instead, explore its front cover. Immerse yourself in it. Notice the details. Consider the atmosphere it creates and how it makes you feel.
Now, imagine what the book is about. Envision the story and the characters; sense where it all happens. Your goal is not to get it right, but to use the cover of the book as a trigger for creating your own story.
You can also apply the Judge a Book by Its Cover experience metaphorically. Look at people you don’t know and imagine their stories. Imagine where they are coming from and where they are heading. Imagine what is on their minds and how they feel.
Don’t try to reveal the answers — shape them.
